Robot Theater

This is a ten week long project that I had to do for my Animation class. I did all of the storyboarding, concepting, modeling, rigging, texturing and animation for this short film. There was a lot of mistakes made and struggles but I'm really happy with how the results turned out. However, I will like to talk about the environmental influences on this project.

This is my very first time I went for something stylized. I didn't want to toil around using Substance trying to find the perfect noise and seed for the edges of the tiles or the wallpaper for realistic textures. My main source of inspiration was Alberto Mielgo's the Witness. Something about that style was so captivating that I wanted to try and replicate it. However there were some things that I just knew I couldn't figure out.

The outlines were the thing that stood out the most during the film and after repeat watches, I realized that it must've been some sort of custom shader or post animation to add this sort of comic book-ish outlines. Because I don't have the time or knowledge to figure out the outline technique used in this film, I duplicated most of my models to be on top of one another, but a separate texture so its only the outlines of the objects to reference the style. In the end, after referencing more of Mielgo's works I really came to enjoy the final product.
